« In preparing this treatise on the Anatomy of the Horse, the Author has intended to assist in supplying a want which he has long felt in the course of his professional labours. It is possible that some may question whether, confining itself to a simple exposition of the more general features of the organization of that animal, this book will be of any important service to those who are engaged in the study of Veterinary Medicine. The writer, however, intends it to serve more as a Text Book for the students of his own class than as an anatomical treatise for general use. Its contents will be constantly amplified and illustrated by the lectures; and it may, therefore, be obtained inter leaved, so that the student will have the opportunity of making his own notes and thus extending the information it contains. If it should aid, even in a small degree, the study of Veterinary Anatomy, the Author will be sufficiently repaid for the labour he has bestowed upon its production. » Présentation de l’éditeur (1867)
