Nevertheless, I feel that many beginners would learn more rapidly and would more clearly understand the problems to be solved if they would study the fundamentals of horsemanship and the essential characteristics of the horse, applying what they have learned when they practise in the riding hall. I have tried, in this handbook, to explain in as simple and untechnical language as possible these fundamentals which have been worked out, improved and added to over many hundreds of years by many generations of horsemen.
